Pros: Picture quality was good right out the box, Good off angle viewing. Good sound.
Cons: Very weak OTA tuners.
Summary: A great TV but not for use with OTA antenna as you will need cable or satelite. The TV is unable to pick up some local OTA stations while others have lots of artifacts. My 3 year old Sanyo can get 25 local digital OTA stations 8 of which are HD and never has artifacts or other problems using the same antenna. The presets are too dark for me but can be adjusted. I used the Disney WOW Blu-Ray calibration disc to calibrate the TV to my liking. Black levels look good to me but I don’t watch TV in a dark room. It is a great TV for $700. Works nicely with my LG BD player with TV remote controling both units with the HDMI simplink feature.

Comparing the two on LG’s Web site, the 5500 has a slightly higher contrast ratio, as well as a slightly lower response time, both implying somewhat better picture quality. In practice we doubt either specification difference will make a big difference in picture quality (more info).
The LE5400 also has a “silver gray” accent to complement its glossy black, and the LE5500 is accented with “evening purple.” The LE5400 series also has a 32-inch model, whereas the LE5500 does not.
As far as we can tell, there are no other major differences between the two series.

Pros: The quality of the picture can go head to head with any high end set on the market today. The Intelligent Sensor is a cool feature on this set too.
Cons: The sound quality is just good and you may need to add a home theater system to help bring it up to par. If not, you may find yourself turning up the set to get a more full sound out of it.
