3D Television and Where it Stands Now

It has been a little over a year since 3D televisions became available in the United States, but has it really grabbed the attention of the consumers in this span of one year? To answer this question, one must first remember that it is still a very new technology and it is too early to comment about its success or failure in an ultimate manner. However, consumer surveys show that 3D televisions and the technology as a whole, has not become as popular as some would have thought it would be in a year. That does not by any means project the fact that it has fallen behind either. The reasons for the somewhat reduced 3D sales are definitely not due to lack of interest on the customer’s part; there are three main reasons responsible for the mediocre sales records.

The price of the 3D televisions and other 3D capable devices act as a big deterrent for consumers and is one of the chief reasons as to why 3D TVs account for only ten percent of the total sales in flat-screen TV department (source: NPD’s Retail Tracking Service) at this time. Consumers often choose an elite class 2D TV set over an entry level 3D TV set based on the price point. This issue however, has been noticed and is in the process of being addressed by the top manufacturers as the price of 3D television sets are being cut down. Also, check out top class and award winning 3D TV sets like the LG LW6500, Samsung UND8000, Panasonic TC-VT30 as well as a host of other fabulous 3D television sets at an affordable price on Amazon.

The heavy glasses that must be worn to enjoy the 3D experience are despised by many consumers as they can become quite uncomfortable after a prolonged session of use. This is a point which has been recognized by LG and Vizio and they have solved it by manufacturing 3 dimensional televisions which work on the principle of “Passive 3D” rather than the conventional “Active 3D”. The glasses which are required for viewing 3D content designed for Passive 3D viewing are way lighter, cheaper and do not even require recharging. Check our detailed reviews on the LG LW5600 and LW6500 to properly understand the matter.

Lack of exposure to the 3D experience in home entertainment is a reason why people are still apprehensive about the new technology. As the price tags on the quality 3D TVs come down to a more affordable level and the technology becomes something that more people can experience, this issue will soon be history. In fact, surveys also show that the majority of the audiences are very excited about 3D, and would rather go to the 3D version of a movie than the 2D version which is running in a cinema hall. As the days pass, people will become even more accustomed to the relatively new and amazing technology, thus we can expect an even brighter future for 3D technology in the upcoming years.

Television Awards at The EISA 2011

It was a very successful night for LG as they ended up with two of the most prestigious awards at the European Imaging and Sound Associations Awards 2011. The LG 55LW650S 3D TV (check out the identical U.S. version known as the LW6500), together with the HLX56S 3D Blu-ray Sound Bar, won the “European 3D Home Theater Solution” award, but it was only half of what they achieved. Later, they were also presented with the “European HT 5.1 System” award for bringing the HX966TZ/TZW Smart 3D Blu-ray™ home theater system to the end users. The esteemed status of the EISA awards amid the home entertainment industry is what makes the two wins all the more special for LG.

Panasonic took the “European Plasma TV” award away with its 50″ TX-P50VT30 plasma TV (Known as the TC-P50VT30 in the U.S.). With its deep black levels and lustrous colors, the Viera is one of the best plasma television sets that are available in the market at the moment and to top it all off, the Viera Connect also allows you to connect with the world via the internet.

“European LCD TV” of the year was chosen to be the Sony Bravia 55HX920, mainly due to its aesthetic design and the inclusion of the Super Bit Mapping Video technology that improves the quality of the video that you are watching.

Philips had taken the idea of a “green planet” way further than all the others in the market with the 46PFL6806 and they were rewarded with the “European Green TV” award this year at the EISA for that conscious effort. The test results from the SIMS MIREC Recycling Solutions confirmed that the Philips 46PFL6806 is indeed the “greenest” TV this year.

The sheer amount of control that the Philips 46PFL9706 gives you over your 3D footage is just amazing, so it is no real surprise that the Philips 46PFL9706 won the best “European 3D TV” award this year. Something unique about the 3D glasses that come with the PHILIPS 46PFL9706 is that although it uses the Active 3D technology to power its 3D functions, the glasses are really light when compared to Philips’ earlier models as well as the other Active 3D glasses from the competitors. Reduced crosstalk issues, detailed images, minimum motion blurring, deep levels of true black as well as a host of other features make Philips 46PFL9706 simply the best 3D television within the price tag this year. Also, it sports the much talked about “Moth Eye Filter” which allows the PFL9706 to offer an astounding contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1, which is just unbelievable!

The Loewe Individual 46 Compose 3D won the “European AV-Streaming TV” award in 2011 at the EISA. The 500 GB in-built HDD and the ability to pause and play the content recorded in it, onto any other Loewe display within your house by streaming through LAN, WLAN and Powerline connections, is really working for the beautiful Loewe Individual 46 Compose 3D.
