The Hallmark LG LW9800 Begins Shipping

The best TV of LG‘s range of 3D HDTVs in 2011 is going to be available for the consumers in US starting today. As per the announcement at the CEDIA 2011 in Indianapolis, the 55LW9800 will be priced at $3,799.

The LX9500 was the best 3D TV from LG in 2010 and it was also the last TV from LG that used the Active Shutter 3D technology. With the LW9800, LG has totally chucked the Active Shutter 3D out of their HDTVs and has incorporated the Passive 3D tech which they call “Cinema 3D“. Cinema 3D has made 3D glasses cheaper, lighter and more comfortable as well as increasing the viewing angle of the televisions that use this technology.

The only squabble that some of the techies had about the LX9500 was that the picture, though brilliant, lacked uniform lighting at certain points especially. LG has addressed this issue with the introduction of the Nano Full LED technology through the LW9800, which uses a thin film and multiple nano LED lights strategically placed throughout the back of the screen. The Local Dimming tech would also be there to help you achieve some of the inkiest blacks possible on a LED TV. A 480Hz refresh rate should ensure that motion blurring is an issue of the past.

Apart from the techs and promises from the manufacturer, perhaps it would further help you choose if you knew that this particular TV is THX certified for both its 2D and 3D capabilities, something that should ensure high class viewing experience for its audiences. The LW9800 ships with the Magic Motion remote control unit and four pairs of Cinema 3D glasses at this moment.

IFA 2011: Sony’s Playstation TV has A Rival!

The Playstation 3D TV from Sony has its first rival now, and it is called the LG LW980T. There are going to be two sizes (47″ and 55″) available for the consumers to choose from when the LW980T is released into the market later this month. What this model is equipped with in order to give the Playstation TV a shudder is the same technology which allows two players sitting in front of the same television set to view two completely independent three dimensional images of the game that they are playing. In addition to the Dual Play feature it is also a lot bigger and more equipped than Sony’s hallmark gaming TV. Highlights among these features are the enhanced Smart TV apps and the Nano Full LED technology working behind the giant screens.

However, you will have to be ready to accept the fact that it also will cost you a lot more than its smaller competitor as the 47″ model is priced at around £1799 while the 55″ model will set you back by £2499. You will also have to buy the Dual Play 3D Glasses separately as they are not included in the package at the moment (you will get seven pairs of Cinema 3D glasses though). If the total cost is making you think, then you should also consider the fact that the game demo, with the help of which LG displayed the LW980T’s Dual Play capabilities was being played on an Xbox 360, which means that you would always be able to enjoy the feature, whether you own an Xbox 360 or a PS3.

IFA 2011: LG LW980S 3D TV

The flagship 3D TV of the Korean Electronics giant at the IFA this year is the LW980S, a 3D HDTV with Cinema 3D, Nano Full LED, Smart TV utilities and everything else that one can possibly expect really! As is the case with passive 3D technology, the Cinema 3D tech used by the LW980S allows its audiences to watch 3D content by wearing lighter glasses that do not need recharging. Though not as high def as the 3D images offered by active shutter tech, it is indeed more comfortable and affordable as well, due to the low price tag on the passive 3D glasses. The standard 2D-to-3D conversion is also there so that you can convert regular 2D images into 3D models, but do not expect the quality to match that of a 3D video which was made to be viewed in 3D in the first place. However, it does a better job than the earlier models though.

The “Flicker-Free” certification by TUV and Intertek also works in the favor of the LW980S, especially when it is proven that 3D content on the LW980S is exceptionally suitable for long term viewing without endangering your health. The wider viewing angles also make the LG LW980S ideal for a group of people who can enjoy the three dimensional experience from any posture they attain. The dotted thin film based Nano Full LED technology together with the 400Hz TruMotion is meant to take the content viewed on the TV to a new level, be it 2D or 3D. Add an extremely thin bezel and LG’s own “3D Video-on-Demand” app to all this, and LG has a clear winner on their hands which is known as the LW980S.
